Back Bay Re-Do

This one took some re-working and I like it better.  I have been re-working quite a few of my older paintings lately.  Mistakes stand out more clearly when I go back after a year or so and review.  Some I leave alone but most I try to enhance/improve (alas, some can't be be helped!).

Catamaran - Complete

Finished this today!  It's amazing how the overall color changes depending on what time of day you photograph your painting.  I snapped this at around 5:15 p.m. and the tone looks totally different from the block in yesterday around 3 or 4 p.m.

Madison Landing

This family was out watching boats come in at the landing near our house.  It wasn't a very sunny afternoon but it was one of the first pleasant days we have had in a while.   The canvas I used had accidentally gotten folded over and there is a vertical crease in it almost in the center of the painting.  Hopefully it will stretch out if I decide to do anything with this one.

I finally got back with my painting group today after being away for several weeks.  I really get inspired there but I am SO rusty.  I just haven't been in the groove lately for painting and I have had many wipe offs!   I finally decided to just keep going with this one.  It needs a little more work and I see, after photographing, that I must have scratched the surface on the lower left some how so it will have to be repaired.

I'm not real sure where I took the photo for this painting - could be the Mississippi Gulf Coast or the Alabama Gulf Coast at Fairhope.  We go to both areas frequently.  I really struggled on this one.   Editing a scene is very difficult for me which is why I prefer still lifes and figurative/portraiture.  I tend to want to paint everything I see which is not the ideal for painting pleasant scenes - there is always something that needs to be removed.   Mostly I avoid landscapes but realize I need to tackle those things that stymie me!?!
