11 x 16 oil on linen

I've worked on this one off and on this week and have enjoyed playing with all the whites and grays.  Lately I have been working on a very large (for me as it's a 30" x 40") painting and I have discovered I just don't enjoy painting big.  First it takes too much time and it's difficult for me to add little subtle strokes here and there--everything is magnified!!!!  I was glad to get back to a size which is more comfortable for manipulating paint.

Mustangs - Study

12 x 16 oil on stretched canvas

This was submitted to the Daily Paintworks Equine Challenge today.  I enjoy painting horses in motion and try to stay loose.  They are beautiful creatures and I tried for looseness and just had to make myself quit.

Stampede

12 x 16 oil on stretched canvas

Started this today as a study for a much larger painting, possibly 30 x 40.  I don't usually paint in a large format so I wanted to try it out in a small version initially.  I plan to keep it abstract.

Afternoon Snooze

10 x 10 oil on canvas panel

This painting was done last fall in preparation of a show.  I can't seem to find time to paint much right now.   I painted this on top of another painting I wasn't pleased with.  I seem to do that a lot.  I like all the paint build-up and colors under the surface and it is actually easier than painting on a stark white canvas.

What's Up?

12 x 16 oil on stretched canvas

This painting is actually one that I did last fall for a show.  I have been busy and distracted this week with other things and haven't had much time to paint.  I spent one day re-painting "Neely's Shoes".  Someone wanted it and I couldn't bear to part with the first one so I re-painted it.   I do that sometimes when I want to keep one for myself.  I will probably tinker with this one also when we get back from Atlanta -- off to see the grands for Grandparents Day at our granddaughter's school.

DPW Challenge #15 - Kit Kat

5 x 7 oil on canvas board - SOLD

This is #15 on the Daily Paintworks Challenges.  I have attempted all of them, some look better than others, but it has been a real good experience in painting different subjects.    Dreama Tolle Perry chose this challenge and she is an expert in painting cats.  Hers are beautiful!

Waiting to Show

8" x 10" oil on canvas board

This was a horse that was showing at the Dixie National Rodeo a couple of years ago.    I don't even know what kind of horse it is but thought he was pretty.   I'm still working with the palette knife but just on the background - didn't have the courage to tackle the entire horse.  I painted on top of a black ground and started to leave the background black but it looked like a painting on velvet that way so I decided to add the yellow background.

Bedtime Buddy

6 x 6 oil on canvas panel

This photo was taken at night of a very sleepy Buddy!   He roused long enough for me to snap his photo.   Buddy belongs to my son and daughter-in-law who live in Marietta, GA.
