Encore

12 x 12 oil on stretched canvas

With the mild winter we had, I was pleased to see that my geranium from last summer made it!  I have always loved geraniums and love the red ones the best!

Spring Treats

18 x 24 oil on stretched canvas - SOLD

This is a floral that I repainted this morning.  I never did like it as I don't feel very comfortable with florals but I do like it better with this lighter background I used.  Before it was darker and the flowers just didn't stand out enough.

Where's the spoon?

5 x 11 oil on canvas panel - SOLD

I've never attempted silverware before so thought I would try today.    My head wasn't screwed on correctly when I put these together on my daughter's wedding gifts' display table.  I had the forks with the knife and the spoon on the other side???!!!   Must have been a major "senior" moment - I have never done that before!

Three Chicks

8 x 10 oil on canvas panel

This is a painting for a local children's shop where I have some of my paintings.  I thought this would be cute for a baby's room.  When I photograph my paintings, they don't appear "sharp", and sort of out of focus.  I know my camera isn't the best and I carry it in my purse and probably the lens has gotten lint or dust on it, even though the cover is on.   I would like another camera but am not sure I want to take on learning how to operate another gadget.  I still don't know how to use my IPHONE for anything other than answering the phone and maybe an occasional picture or two but haven't learned how to send the pics by e-mail.  I need to just sit down one day and read the booklet and play with it - all this new technology is challenging my feeble brain!

Mayflower Cafe

10 x 20 oil on canvas panel

I have been struggling on this one for several days.  I painted it on a 16 x 20 canvas and there was too much wall to the right of painting so I have cropped all of that out and plan on pulling canvas from frame and re-mounting.  I have done that before and it works ok.  The painting was just too heavy to the left.  This will probably be my last sign; I have overworked it, I fear, trying to get perspective, proportions and lines correct.  This is a local Greek restaurant that has been around for a long, long time.  We go there frequently and we always enjoy seeing old friends - neat atmosphere and great food!

Forest Path

 18 x 24 oil on stretched canvas

I have been working on this one for several days - and was way out of my comfort zone with both the subject matter and the size.  I do not like painting landscapes but am determined to get the "feel of it".  I probably shouldn't have even posted as I am sure I will see plenty that needs changing and I am sure this one hasn't seen it's last stroke.  Many times I will see obvious errors once I post that I didn't see prior to that.   I learned a lot on this one, mainly that I need a LOT of work on trees!

Dancing Partners

8 x 10 oil on ampersand panel

The reference photo for this was taken at my granddaughter's dance recital although she is not one of these dancers.  I waited until too late to try to photograph this tonight and the room was relatively dark because the artificial light wasn't working so I ended up trying to lighten in I-Photo.  The colors are a little off as well as the clarity.  I loved the serious looks on the dancers' faces - they were so cute!  Oops, I see I have posted this one previously.  Sorry about that.  I was trying to post something since I have been under the weather for a few days - probably from the fluctuations in temperature around here - 80+ degrees one day and then 40 the next!

Trace Trees

12 x 16 oil on stretched canvas

This is a painting I started last year, hated and recently re-worked.  I have never been confident with trees and landscapes so I have been working on those lately.  Hopefully, I will get the "hang of it" soon. There are several very good artists whose work I review in my attempt to improve.  This was a photo I took on the Natchez Trace last winter.  The snarled looking branches are what attracted me to them.
